Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Matt Packer (SP, Akron): W (1-0), 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 7 SO

Welcome back to Akron Mr. Packer! After missing a big chunk of the season because of shoulder soreness in Spring Training, Packer roared back into the Eastern League with this start last night. After posting a 4.31 ERA last year (but a 3.56 FIP thanks to a 129:33 SO:BB ratio in 169.1 innings), Packer was supposed to pitch in Columbus this year and get a shot to make the big league club in 2013 (or possibly as a September callup). His injury has put that timetable on hold, but Packer is a very good left-handed starter that has great control and seems to be back on the right track. Read More…
