Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.
Jerrud Sabourin (DH, Carolina): 2-for-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SO
At this point, we here at IBI have made Sabourin overhyped as opposed to undervalued. We have taken so well to our Sabour-Tooth Tiger that expectations for the undrafted first baseman may be too high. He does not hit with nearly enough power to be a first baseman (.101 ISO) and he is 23 years old in High-A.
Still, there is no reason to not love Sabourin. He plays the game hard, he plays the game well, and he produces (.310/.389/.411 line in 46 games). It is great to see the stars and major leaguers of tomorrow when you go to the minor league ball park, but I also love watching players like Sabourin who play the game right. Not everyone has a major league future — that is a sad but simple fact — but players like Sabourin make the minor leagues work and are great to follow. Read More…
