In today’s Coach’s Corner, Jim Piascik brings you his recent Q&A with Double-A Akron manager Dave Wallace.
This is a regular in-season and off-season premium piece on the site where Tony or I sit down with a coach in the Indians minor league system and really break down and discuss several players on the roster and talk about some of the philosophies surrounding the development of players.
After talking with Wallace about the hitters last week, this week we focused on the pitching side of the equation. We talked about Cody Anderson’s growth and the adjustments he is making, what Will Roberts is doing to improve in his second year in Akron, what is making Joe Colon so effective this season, discussed some of the new faces to the organization, and much, much more.

Q: To start off, Cody Anderson. Been pitching better lately, had a rough stretch in the middle there. Is he working on anything this year that’s kind of contributing to the ups and downs or is it just the natural adjustments to Double-A?
Dave Wallace (DW): Yeah, pretty natural adjustments to Double-A. That’s definitely part of it. There’s some mechanical adjustments that he’s working through. Not major changes, but just small things he’s trying to be a little more consistent with and it’s definitely starting to become more natural for him and that’s why I think we’re seeing him throw the ball pretty well lately.
