Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Cleveland prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Mitch Brown (SP, Lake County): W (5-8), 7.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 SO
It has not been the smoothest ride for Brown since being drafted in the second round of the 2012 draft. He struggled in 2013 in 15.2 innings in Lake County and 52.0 innings in the Arizona League, and his performance this season still needs some work going forward (3.73 ERA, 7.9 SO/9, 4.1 BB/9, 11 hit batters, 22 wild pitches in 116.0 innings). But the lower levels of the minors are all about development and growth, two things Brown is showing in 2014. The 20-year-old still has plenty of time to become the pitcher he can be, a journey that requires taking the first step. There is no way to know whether Brown will fit everything together and find success in the majors, but if he is going to, his solid performance and flashes of dominance in 2014 will be a key turning point in the right-hander’s career.
