Around the Farm: August 9, 2014 (8.10.14)

Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Cleveland prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Note that Carolina’s game was suspended in the 11th inning and that the Arizona League team was off Saturday.

Carlos Moncrief (RF, Columbus): 2-for-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 SO

The story really has not changed much for Moncrief this season, as after a rough first two months from an overall performance standpoint, the 25-year-old has started getting better results without fixing his plate discipline. That still remains true, with Moncrief approach at the plate (109:30 SO:BB in 112 games this season) needing addressed, but it is not like the right fielder is having a terrible season. With a .276/.328/.441 line and 41 extra base hits, Moncrief is actually hitting at an above-average rate to go with his strong defense. Moncrief may not be knocking down the door to the major leagues, but given his decent performance this season and overall skillset, you can see how he could fit onto the roster in Cleveland at some point in 2015.
