Cleveland Indians: 10 Players That Won’t Help The Indians Win The World Series (12.28.10)

As sportswriter Bill Simmons would put it, the Indians are in life or death territory, as in whenever an Indians fan dies, you count back to see if they got to be alive during the last World Series win. Since that last win came in 1948, there are far too many Indians fans dying before they get a chance to see their team on top.

With that in mind, the Cleveland Indians need to be doing everything possible to win the World Series. Rebuilding is a necessary part of this, but the current Indians roster is littered with players that aren’t going to help the Indians get back on top.

Only Chicago Cubs fans have suffered longer than Indians fans. To prevent this suffering from going on any longer, the Indians need to go into this rebuilding process 100 percent, make some bold moves and get the fans what they want, a World Series.

Note: Projections for players came from Baseball-Reference.com’s similarity scores. Similarity scores compare a player’s statistics to all other MLB players from all time, allowing us to see what they will likely become. This is not an exact science, but it is a projection. Just because a player is not projected to do well does not mean they can’t defy the projection, though it is unlikely. This list is based off of these assumptions, which could be wrong, but likely are right. Read More…

MLB Trade Rumors: 10 Grady Sizemore Deals That Make Sense For the Indians (12.20.10)

After only playing in 139 games in the last two seasons, not much is expected out of Grady Sizemore going into the 2011 season. If he were to show up healthy for the season, it might be in the Indians’ best interests to trade him to save some money, gaining prospects in return.

Sizemore is due $7.5 million in 2011 and $8.5 million in 2012; more than the Indians can afford after finishing in last place in attendance in 2010. Grady will be 30 by the time the Indians could compete again and his body seems to be breaking down on him. If healthy for the 2011 season, here are 10 trades the Indians could make to get younger and better to compete in 2012 and beyond. Read More…

Indianapolis Colts: Years of Poor Drafting Leaves Peyton Manning in the Cold (12.10.10)

Indianapolis Colts GM Bill Polian’s strategy for the NFL Draft is, “First of all, you should take the best player.”

The way things have been going in Indianapolis recently, it might be time for Polian to rethink this strategy. With a string of poor drafts, it is a miracle that the Colts have stayed good for as long as they have. Peyton Manning has covered up years of mistakes the Colts front office has committed in the draft, but now even he cannot save the day. Dear LeBron James: Not Just Another Angry Letter From a Cavaliers Fan (12.7.10)

Dear LeBron,

You had every right to leave Cleveland this summer, Cavaliers fans understand that. You had every right to utilize free agency to join Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, we understand that as well. Sure, it seems like a cop-out, subjecting yourself beneath Wade, but if you win enough championships, history will forgive you. As you understand, history always forgives winners. As long as you take care of business, in the big picture, The Decision will not taint your legacy. That does not mean that it didn’t hurt, though. Read More…
