Around The Farm: November 29, 2012 (11.30.12)

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Note that the Australian and Dominican Baseball Leagues were off last night.

Here is the rundown of what Cleveland players in fall and winter ball did yesterday:

Venezuelan Winter League

  • Ezequiel Carrera (RF-CF): 1-for-4, 1 BB, 1 SB, 1 E. Just another routine day from Carrera, reaching base twice, stealing a base, and struggling in the field. Still, this offseason has been a good start for Carrera headed into Spring Training. Read More…

Here is the rundown of what Cleveland players in fall and winter ball did yesterday:

Venezuelan Winter League

  • Jesus Aguilar (1B): 3-for-4, 1 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI. Aguilar was the star of the show last night, knocking three extra base hits, including one home run. He disappeared for a while (as Steve Orbanek wrote about Friday), but it looks like Aguilar may have found his stroke again. This is the power everyone wants to see out of him. Read More…

Around The Farm: November 22, 2012 (11.23.12)

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Note: As some of the games finished quite late, I will update as early in the morning as I can. Those games will be here shortly.

UPDATE: Carrera and Murata have been added. Everything’s good to go now.

Here is the rundown of what Cleveland players in fall and winter ball did yesterday:

Venezuelan Winter League

  • Jesus Aguilar (PH): 0-for-1. Aguilar was called upon with two outs in the ninth inning and his team trailing by seven runs. He flew out to center to end the game, ending another disappointing night of offseason ball. It has been a tough winter so far for  Aguilar, as he also missed out on being placed on the 40-man roster this past week. Read More…

AFL Recap: House, Monsalve, Haley Impress (11.18.12)

Thursday night marked the final game action for the Arizona Fall League’s Scottsdale Scorpions, and with it ended the journey for the eight Cleveland prospects taking part in the league.

The specific statistics from these AFL games do not mean much, as many of the best pitchers have already been shut down for the season and players often are working on improving specific parts of their game, not looking for such work to show in immediate results. However, larger trends and growth patterns can be taken away from AFL games and that is what we will be looking for here.

At the end of each capsule, you will find a link to each of IPI’s Spotlight pieces on the AFL participants. Tony talked with each of them while he was out in Arizona in October, gaining insight into each player’s approach to the AFL and what they are working on this offseason. Read More…

Around The Farm: November 15, 2012 (11.16.12)

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Here is the rundown of what Cleveland players in fall and winter ball did yesterday:

Arizona Fall League

  • Tyler Holt (CF): 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 SO, 1 CS. Holt continues to get on base at a decent clip out in Arizona (.353 OBP) with absolutely no power. Unless he wants to become Jordan Henry 2.0, Holt will need to show some extra-base ability at some point in 2013. Read More…

Around The Farm: November 8, 2012 (11.9.12)

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Here is the rundown of what Indians players in fall and winter ball did yesterday:

Arizona Fall League

  • Carlos Moncrief (RF): 0-for-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 SO. Moncrief’s rough adjustment to the AFL continued last night, as he only has two hits in his last six games. As has been written before, Moncrief is playing against tougher competition than he faced all year and AFL stats do not matter; what is necessary is that Moncrief uses this experience as a springboard to a strong 2013. Here is the rundown of what Indians players in fall and winter ball did yesterday:

Arizona Fall League

  • Carlos Moncrief (RF): 1-for-5, 1 R, 1 SO. On a night when Scottsdale scored 12 runs, Moncrief found a way to not drive a single one in. Moncrief did score a run, but it is clear right now that he is in a little bit over his head (6-for-30, 13:1 SO:BB). Read More…
